why launch from Puerto Rico
visualized!
We would want the ideal launch azimuth to LEO from Puerto Rico and the secondary goal is where to ballisticly soft land the first stage on land? and in the case of the Falcon heavy where to land the CBC and core stage?
Puerto Rico launch at a heading of 202 degrees without a first stage dogleg 432 miles to Bonaire (sun synchronous orbit).
Vandenberg AFB is more of a problem I think? San Nicolas or any of the other channel islands looks like to me to be a much more of a propulsive maneuver from the point of MECO then a purely ballistic first stage recovery wich is what we where seeking, still better than a return to Vandenberg if it where not for costs of transport from the island landing zone back to Vandenberg or Hawthorne.
is there fuel for weight to be gained for a classified payload or a government payload by landing a stage at San Nicolas? some I would think but I am less than happy.
And the ISS destination from Puerto Rico?
This would depend on a cost benefit analysis of whether ISS cargoes is enhanced by an increased payload to ISS VS the cost of a virgin islands landing infrastructure to 2024?
